What's Going On?
Farewell David
After six years of ministry at Milford Hills United Methodist Church, David will be leaving us at the end of the month to begin a new ministry at Forest Hills UMC in Concord.  We will miss David, Kim, and the entire Hockett family, and wish them well.  During his time with us, we have grown richly in the spirit of Christ, and will treasure the many happy memories we have made together.  Read David's thoughts on the Pastor's Corner Page.

A Tribute
Through six years of leadership David has taken Milford Hills UMC to a deeper level of discipleship and a greater appreciation of worship. David demonstrated from the very beginning his spiritual depth when he had printed in the bulletin the Benedictine rule of hospitality: ¨All guests who present themselves are to be wel-comed as Christ, for him himself will say: I was a stranger and you welcomed me." Matthew 25:35

David has a gift for teaching and preaching. David is like Philip in the story of the Ethiopian eunuch who was traveling home from Jerusalem. Philip ran up beside the chariot while the eunuch was reading from the prophet Isaiah and asked ¨Do you understand what you are reading?"  The eunuch replied, ¨How can I, unless someone guides me?"  Philip opened the meaning the Scripture to the eunuch and he became a believer.

Also one is reminded of the story of the travelers on the road to Emmaus when Jesus came along beside them as they were discussing what had happened in Jerusalem when Jesus was crucified. They did not recognize Jesus, but they told him how sad they were. They told him of the hopes they had placed in Jesus. Jesus opened the Scripture to them beginning with Moses and the prophets.

David has a gift for opening the Scripture, expanding your understanding so that it cuts straight to the heart—and creates in you a longing to have a deeper and closer relationship with God.

David introduced many of us to the beauty of silent retreat. He guided us through difficult studies. He helped us stretch the boundaries of our understanding of who God wants us to be.

David has shown Christlike compassion for those who suffer. Many have experienced his presence with them during crisis, last stages of life or loss of a loved one.

David has prepared us well to graciously welcome our new pastor and wife, Chris and Gloria Hughes.

We thank you, David. We love you and your precious family— Kim, Salem, Abbey and Eli. You will be greatly missed.
