The History of Milford Hills UMC

On November 13, 1955, Rev. Worth Sweet led 55 spirited charter members of Milford Hills Methodists at the Franklin Community Building.

Every single member played a part in the building of the new church physically, spiritually, and financially, and they stayed busy!

Less than two years later (June 30, 1957) Bishop Harmon consecrated the Fellowship Hall (which served also as the sanctuary) and also Educational Bldg. #1 at
1630 Statesville Blvd.

The United Methodist Women were building their focus on missions, the Methodist Men were building up scouting programs and the Sunday School that started on comforters in the basement of Franklin Community Building was outgrowing the new facility and held classes everywhere, even in the kitchen!

The second education building, now named for church leaders, C.W. and Leona Herman, was finished in 1964 and services in our sanctuary began in 1971.

Architectural gains through the years don't begin to tell the story of our church family's personal growth. With divinely inspired pastoral leadership we are indeed living our motto to "Glorify, Edify, and Multiply."

On November 13, 2005, Milford Hills UMC celebrated its 50th Anniversary with a special service and covered dish dinner.  Members past and present attended the event, and the gathering included two former pastors.  Following the lunch, a special time capsule was opened revealing many old photographs, letters, and keepsakes from 1976.  Be sure to visit our 50th Anniversary Photo Page!
