News and Concerns of Our Fellowship
Angel Tree
It is Angel Tree time! We have the names of the chil-dren and have contacted their families. Now, you can choose your angel and purchase a gift for them on behalf of their incarcerated parent. Remember, this program is not strictly a financial need based program.
The goal of this ministry is to connect parents in prison with their children through the delivery of Christmas gifts on their behalf, while sharing the Gospel. Our church has the opportunity to share Christ's love while meeting the physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of the families of prisoners, especially the children.
So how can you help? We obviously need people to buy the requested gifts for the children on behalf of their parents. The Angel Tree has been set up in the Gathering Place. We have 24 children between the ages of 1 and 17 years.
If you would like to purchase a gift for a child, please take an angel off the tree and pick up an Angel Tree Gift Guideline handout. Each gift should be approximately $20.
Also, remember to record your name and phone number on the clipboard beside the name of Page 6 the child you chose. We need to keep track of who has selected each child to make sure all children receive a gift. Please return the wrapped gifts to church by Sunday Dec. 12.
If you would like to provide a gift for a child but you are unable to shop yourself, please chose your angel and give the angel along with your cash donation to Kristie Gingery. She will purchase and wrap the gift for you. In addition, we need people to help organize gifts received, send Christmas cards to the participating inmates, and deliver gifts to the children after Dec. 12. Delivery is a very important part of the program as it is our opportunity to meet these families and deliver the Good News of God's love and salvation.
If you would like to be a part of this rewarding outreach or if you have additional questions, please contact Kristie Gingery (704) 640-5818; klgdvm@carolina.rr.com or leave a message at the Church Office (704) 636-0471.
Donated Food
We have received a note from a parent of one of our Backpack Buddies saying how much the family appreciates the foods we send home and the teachers at Hanford Dole Elementary School always express their appreciation to our delivery volunteers.
Those volunteers at this time are: Susan Dean, Anne Dockins, and Dennis and Dottie Hinz. Since we created the first list of foods for the children, some items have been changed or eliminated due to potential allergy issues.
Here are food items we will always need: Standard sized: Ravioli or similar pasta foods green beans peas corn carrots pineapple chunks lite fruit Small containers of: Mandarin oranges Applesauce Pudding Boxes of: instant grits granola bars microwave popcorn Juicy Juices Chocolate milk
Missions
In case you haven’t heard, we raised $3500.00 for Missions with our 2010 Pumpkin Patch, and we had lots of fun and made some new friends.
The Missions Team will designate these funds in the New Year. Thanks to the Golden Rule Sunday School Class for handling meals and laundry at the Homeless Shelter on Tuesday, December 14th.
The Missions Offering which will be received during the Christmas Eve Candlelight Service will support the least of these (Matthew 25:45). 75% will go to Rowan Helping Ministries and 25% to the Pastor’s Discretionary Fund.
